Netflix:
Netflix started in 1997 when Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph created the original idea for Netflix in Scotts Valley, CA. They originally wanted to call it Kibble but changed it to NetFlix.com and then later to Netflix. Netflix was originally a DVD-by-mail service. It started DVD rentals by mail in 1998. Then in 1999, it introduced its subscription model. Which provided unlimited rentals sent by mail to their subscribers with no late fees. From 2002-2006, Netflix’s subscription count grew to 5 million people and became the biggest and only service of its kind. Streaming was introduced in 2007, which helped grow Netflix’s company much bigger.
Netflix has since been introduced in more than 190 countries, and the company has more than 220 million global streaming memberships. Netflix is the most-nominated studio at the Emmy and the Academy Awards. Netflix has caused a significant decline in cable TV purchases since streaming has become extremely significant in today’s society. Netflix forced cable TV to change the way they do business. Netflix allows people to consume content in the way they prefer to. I would rather watch Netflix than a movie on cable TV with commercials. I also enjoy that I can watch Netflix on almost all of my devices, including my phone, computer, iPad, and TV. Netflix was the start of streaming sites and made a huge impact on how we watch TV now. Now there are so many streaming services that I don't even know all of them and I never use cable TV anymore.
